The National Ski Patrol (NSP) is a non-profit organization that provides education, outreach, and credentialing related to outdoor recreation and safety. It is composed of more than 26,000 members who serve in over 600 patrols throughout the United States (and a couple in Europe). For its dedication to public safety in skiing and other winter sports, the NSP was granted a congressional charter under Title 36 of the United States Code in 1980.
The Northern Division of the NSP provides emergency care and rescue services at ski areas across Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and parts of Wyoming. Today that is 16 member patrols — alpine, nordic, and bike — trained to the same gold standard you would find at any NSP mountain.
Other NSP divisions include the Pacific Northwest, Far West, Intermountain, Rocky Mountain, Central, Southern, Eastern, and European Divisions. National programs live at nsp.org.
